National Sports Day is celebrated on 29th August every year in India. It is the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand who is one of the most respected legendary figures in Indian and world hockey. This year , on National Sports Day Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Fit India Movement at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. As per the guidelines of CBSE a fitness pledge was taken by the students as well as teachers at BCM School, Chd. Road. Around 1000 students of different blocks viewed the launch function of Fit India Movement by Honorable Prime Minister broadcasted live through DD National. Students seemed to be enthusiastic and motivated by PM Modi’s speech wherein he stated that healthy India is his goal. He also called for a strict control on people’s lifestyles as small change in lifestyle can bring massive benefits. Apart from this a plethora of activities was conducted during the day. A special morning assembly was organized in which tribute was paid to Maj. Dhyan Chand. Students participated in different athletic events, an Inter House Sports quiz and Chess Competition. Students also participated in a bio-sketch writing competition wherein they penned down the life history of Major Dhyaan Chand. Students participated in all these activities. Principal D.P Guleria applauded the efforts of the students and encouraged them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nation-wide Fit India Movement on National Sports Day. As per the guidelines of CBSE, a live telecast of the launch was arranged for the students of different blocks. The inaugural event was held at Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi, where the PM administered a fitness pledge to the people of the country. Fit India Movement is aimed at encouraging people to give priority to sports and fitness in their day-to-day lives. Students were enthusiastic and motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech wherein he stated that healthy India is his goal. He also called for a strict control on people’s lifestyles as small change in lifestyle can bring massive benefits. He also emphasized on the importance of fitness, especially in the times we live in and added that people must change their mindsets when it comes to physical fitness. Students as well teachers took a fitness pledge at the end.

Taking the active approach against the use of plastic, middle wing organised ‘An Expert’s Lecture’ on 17 August, 2019. The expert, Ms. Meena Sharma, acquainted the students of class VII with the use and reuse of plastic, types of pollutions caused by plastic and how to manage the plastic waste in India, China & Bangladesh with the help of a PPT and videos. The young learners exhibited this spirit of going against the plastic in ‘Debate’ on the topic ‘Plastic is boon or curse’ on 23 August 2019. The students of class VIII manifested their arguments over both the blessings and curse of plastic to mankind. Thereafter, the budding scientists of classes VII and VIII conceptualised their gained knowledge about plastic in activity ‘Model Making’ on 26 August 2019 wherein they made electric circuits showing that every type of plastic is a poor conductor of electricity. The students of Grade VI & VII wrote different messages using different calligraphic styles and spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic in ‘Slogan Writing’ activity on 27 August 2019.

BCM School, organized an Essay Writing Competition under the title CBSE Expression Series. This series is based on the life, vision and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Students of classes 6 to 8 exhibited their creative writing skills on the topics ‘Mahatma Gandhi inspires me to.’ & ‘This is how I practice swacchta in my daily life’. The activity aims to provide students an opportunity to express their ideas creatively on various topics. The best entries will be uploaded for the selection. Students showcased their opinions innovatively on the topics. Principal Mr. D.P. Guleria emphasized on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and motivated the students to follow the righteous path.

The holy occasion of Janamashtami brings people together, hence signify unity and faith. BCM School Sec 32A celebrated this festival with aplomb. Students from classes Ist to 8th participated in plethora of activities with great devotion and enthusiasm. The day started with morning assembly in which Students of class VIII exemplified the value of friendship depicting the story of Lord Krishna and Sudama. Students sang melodious bhajans of Lord Krishna. They exhibited hues of Lord Krishna’s life in posters and greeting cards. They beautifully decorated flutes and narrated saar of Bhagwad Geeta. Moral story telling Competition was also conducted to inculcate good values amongst them. Their stories were conveyed the strong message “Victory of good over evil.” The event concluded with the message of the Principal, Mr. D.P. Guleria. He reminded the students about Lord Krishna’s devotion and obedience to his master. Further he motivated the students to imbibe their lives with the moral lessons from Lord Krishna’s life.

BCMites believe to be part of the solution, not part of the pollution. The young learners exhibited this spirit of going against the plastic under British council activity ‘Debate’ on the topic ‘Plastic is boon or curse’. The students of class VIII manifested their arguments over both the blessings and curse of plastic to mankind. The speakers for the motion expressed that plastic is useful in all walks of life as good quality plastics are unbreakable and are used in manufacturing various articles. The speakers against the motion considered plastic as very harmful to our health and a ticking time bomb for the environment as it cannot be destroyed easily. The debate came alive as a volley of questions was answered. Each participant rose to the occasion to defend their argument. All the participants exhibited their analytical skill and concern for the issue of a clean environment which were highly appreciated by the teachers.

On 23 August, BCM School, Chandigarh road, celebrated Janamashtami with great pomp and show. Students of class 9 and 10 staged a beautiful play enacting the different moments of Krishna's life, sang songs and danced to the tunes of dandiya. They also played a powerpoint presentation describing the origin and historical background of Janamashtami. Students expressed great zeal and enthusiasm while performing and it was a great delight for the viewers. They were appreciated and applauded for their efforts. The national fervor permeated in the environs of BCM School, Chandigarh Road on the 73st Independence Day of India on August 14, 2019. This national festival was celebrated with utmost joy, happiness, great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. Independence Day Celebration commenced one week before with special morning assemblies conducted by students of IX and X. Students presented enactments, speeches, patriotic songs, choreography and mime enlightening the contribution of unsung heroes of the Indian freedom struggle. On August 14 various activities were conducted in different blocks. Students of KG wing came in Tri Colour attires. Students of Primary wing conducted a special morning assembly. Students spoke on the history and significance of the day. Teachers presented a melodious patriotic song. Students of VI to VIII participated in a Poster Making Activity exhibiting hues of independence through beautiful posters. Students of classes I to III participated in a Patriotic poetry recitation competition. Students of class IV enacted as Freedom Fighters. Beautiful Tri-Colour pigeons and flowers were also prepared by students of classes IV and V.

Petroleum Conservation Research Association, is committed to make oil conservation a National Movement. To raise awareness among youth about practical conservation and to ensure participation in “Saksham National Competition 2019”, Essay writing competition in all 3 languages for classes 7 and 8 and painting competition for classes 6, 7 and 8 were organized. Topic for the same was “Oil Conservation Towards Healthy and Better Environment”.

With a view to enlighten the minds of students and parents and to make them more aware with the prevalent career opportunities available for students Career Counselling Session was organised in BCM Senior Secondary School on 10th August,2019 in Primary Activity Hall. It was addressed by School Counsellors of Primary, Middle and Senior Wings. Principal Sir too shared his words of wisdom with the audience and presided over the session with many valuable tips that could help students in properly attempting the exams and described the main things the examiners look for in the answer sheets. The session proved to be a kind of eye opener both for the parents and students. Parents came up with suggestions for more such sessions to be organised in the school .Overall, it proved to be a very interactive session.

Thinking in the same direction, the students of different wings were provided a break from their monotonous day at school. Students availed the opportunity for a movie show in Mahatma Satyanand Ji Munjal Activity Hall and Mata Thakur Devi Auditorium.
Students of classes I to III were shown an award winning movie “ My home is green” which is dedicated to those children who lost their lives in the endosulfan mishap of Kasargod district, Kerala. Students were overjoyed while watching the movie. They learnt the values of hard work, discipline, helping and caring, empathy and being eco-friendly.
Students of classes IV and V watched the movie ‘The Lion King’. Students not only frolicked and laughed but also learned about right and wrong. The movie gave them a lesson to believe in themselves and to be always happy.
Students from VI to XII enjoyed the movie ‘Kesari’. The movie is about a historic event – Battle of Saragarhi. It is a rousing patriotic film which took students into the lives of the soldiers.

Movie Show for Students
Students of BCM School, Chandigarh Road prepared ‘Thank you’ cards and penned down their feelings of gratitude for soldiers for Independence Day in an activity titled ‘Ek Rishta School Se Sarhad Tak’. The activity is an initiative of the Department of Income Tax, to proffer much-needed encouragement to the soldiers manning the country’s lonely borders. As per a circular issued by Kamal Deep, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Ludhiana, the initiative entails sending greeting cards, letters from school going students to the soldiers manning India’s loneliest yet the most volatile borders on Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat and the North-East, to tell them that the nation stands with them. Students participated with full enthusiasm and gave their regards and best wishes through their artwork. Around 1000 greeting cards and 5000 letters of gratitude were prepared and sent to Income Tax Office. Principal D.P.Guleria applauded the efforts of the students and said that such activities nurture & strengthen the feeling of patriotism in students.
