74th INDEPENDENCE DAY JOLLIFICATIONS

Though the school is closed for students due to global pandemic Covid-19, the staff and students of BCM School Chandigarh Road exhibited unparalleled enthusiasm while celebrating 74th Independence Day. The Principal Mr. DP Guleria addressed the staff and students on virtual platform. He congratulated all on this auspicious occasion and paid homage to the brave warriors who sacrificed their personal interests and even lives for the country. He further said that we must remember the teachings of our great ancestors like Ram, Krishna, ChanakyaVivekanand. We should remember that the country achieved freedom after great sacrifices. This freedom should be guarded with all our might and never taken for granted. He congratulated the teachers for switching over to novel system of online teaching with such ease and in almost no time. While praising the new education policy initiated by the Govt., he said that it is the kind of education only that decides the future of a country. He reminded the teachers to be vigilant of their huge responsibility and be a role model for the students. 

The teachers organized a plethora of online activities wherein the students partook with great patriotic fervour. Dressed up in the colours of Tiranga, children from Grade I-V participated in “Being Static, Still Patriotic” progression on virtual platform and many other engaging activities like Poem recitation, dancing on patriotic songs, making Independence Day craft, role plays on life events of freedom fighters and assembling a delicious tricolour sandwich. Versatile and enthusiastic BCMites also added their unique inputs in articulation in the form of poems, slogans, jingles and dance. 

Students of classes VI-VIII created tri colour caps, painted tri colour t-shirts and dressed themselves in garb of freedom fighters. Every home became a shrine of ‘Maa Bharati’ as the students enunciated patriotic slogans, speeches and poems. Such was their enthusiasm that the entire virtual event seemed like happening in actuality.? Marching with heads held high, dancing hand in hand with peers, watching Tricolor unfurling proudly while singing national anthem in chorus became the treasured memories of this uniquely celebrated Independence Day. All prayed to almighty that soon the pandemic loses its grip over the world and once again the school campus is filled with cheerful presence of the students.

JANAMASHTMI CELEBRATIONS

‘Sweeter than honey, tastier than curd, pleasanter indeed than any happiness and joy is the company, is the power of the name of Krishna’

To seek the blessings of Lord Krishna, Janmashtami was celebrated by Students of BCM School, Chandigarh road with mirth and joy. While this religious importance is not lost, this day signifies a lot more to modern India. It indicates excitement, euphoria and a joyous spirit of enthrallment. To celebrate the extraordinary bond between man and the Almighty, students took the opportunity to participate in a plethora of online activities. BCMites from classes I to X participated in flute & poster decoration, crown making, poster decoration of Lord Krishna, Geeta Saar writing, rangoli making , mono acting, colourful Janki decorations etc. The spirit of festivity was enhanced with online bhajan competition in which students sang melodious bhajans and Navreet of VIII J stood first. The purpose of the flamboyant celebration was to inculcate value of sharing and respect in the students.

School Principal, D.P. Guleria blessed all the students on this auspicious day and gave them the message to look ahead instead of reminiscing in the past. His words truly summed up the efficacy of celebrating festivals of devotion and obedience towards their parents and teachers.

BLOGGING ACTIVITY BY BCMites ON RAKSHA BANDHAN

BCM School, Chandigarh Road continued their trend of celebrations by organising plethora of  activities on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on August 1,2020. About 1200 students participated in these activities with great gusto. Students of classes l to V contributed in the celebration by designing eco -friendly Rakhis and Shagun envelops. Students of middle wing demonstrated their creative expressions through the activity 'Rakhi Thali Decoration' and students of classes IX and X communicated their emotions of the festival through the activity -'A Letter to Doctors' in which they extended their gratitude to doctors for being in the front line of the battle against coronavirus pandemic. Later, all the letters were sent to the doctors through a link of BCM School blog.The principal, Mr. D.P Guleria applauded the students for their sincere efforts. These activities instilled in the students the values of love and solicitude.

BCM School, Chd. Road gleamed in CBSE Reading Month Competitions

As per the guidelines of CBSE, Students and teachers of BCM School, Chandigarh Road participated in CBSE Reading Month activities and competitions which was celebrated from June 19 to July 18. Lakhs of students from CBSE Schools around the nation participated in this. BCMites once again brought laurels to the school by winning commendable positions in different competitions. In Open Art Competition Divik Garg of class 2, Mahanya Garg of class 3 bagged 2nd prize whereas  Darshdeep Singh of Class 2 and Ridhima of class 5 got 3rd prize. In Quiz Competition for the students of classes 6 to 12, Vidhi Jain of class 8 got 3rd position. Not only the students but teachers of BCM School, Chandigarh Road also participated in Quiz Competition and Video making Competition. Ms. Madhu Sharma, PGT English got 2nd prize in Video Making competition for her video on the topic “Book that changed my life”. Her video was based on the book “Why Gandhi still matters: An Appraisal of the Mahatma’s Legacy”. Divik Garg and Mahanya Garg also secured their positions in Zone wise winners. Principal D.P. Guleria congratulated all the winners and acclaimed the efforts of the students and teachers. He also encouraged them to participate more in such competitions to make this time productive and fruitful.

Science Wiz kid II Middle wing II

 “Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding.”

Science is a subject which is completely focused on the facts and evidences concerning the natural and social world.  To encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and to establish a relationship between theory and application of the learnt concepts, Online Science Wiz Kid was conducted for the students of middle wing.  Students participated in it with great enthusiasm and vigour. The first round of quiz was conducted on July 18, 2020. Students scoring highest marks in first round were selected for the final round which was conducted on July 30, 2020.  Students who got top rank are Ananya Arora from VI G, Raghav Bhatia from VII E & Drish Malhotra  from class VIII-I.

Harshit Grover has utilised the month of July by participating in near about 5 quiz on Covid 19 organised by different organisations & universities like Sipna College of Engineering and Technology, Amravati, J.K.K. Nattraja College of Pharmacy, Tamilnadu, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur etc. He has also participated in various quizzes conducted on Umang App. He got certificate of appreciation from all the organizations.

Celebration of Kargil Victory Day

“Patriotism is a vital virtue which must be deep rooted in young minds”

We, Indians Sleep peacefully at our homes because our Army is guarding the frontiers. To salute the real heroes of the Nation and inspire the students for a patriotic cause, Kargil Victory Day was celebrated with aplomb. BCMites of classes IV to VIII participated in a plethora of activities ranging from bio-sketch writing to article writing, Patriotic Poem Recitation to singing patriotic songs. They depict moments of pride, courage and sacrifice shown by our Army Men in their presentations. They also pledged to serve the Nation in every possible manner.     School Principal Mr. D.P. Guleria  appreciated the efforts put in by the students. He urged the students to remember the sacrifice of the great martyrs made for our protection and remarked that we should not take our freedom for granted, rather should  strive every day to make India worthy of the invaluable sacrifice made by  the Kargil Heroes.

Seminar on 'Puberty'

The counselling cell of Middle wing organized a webinar on “Understanding Puberty” for the girls of class VI. Ms. Shreya Sarkar (Child Counsellor, Middle Wing) addressed the students about the science behind “Puberty”. The girls were told about the transitional phase of growth and development that brings with psychological, social, and moral terrain and how they need to get through with the change by accepting it as a part of growing up. It was an interactive session in which the queries of the young minds were given a satisfactory answer.

BCM School Chd. Road CELEBRATED VAN MAHOTSAV 
Trees have been serving humanity since times immemorial. The very existence of man would not have been possible without flora and fauna. “If a tree is saved even at cost of one’s head, it’s worth it.” BCM School always takes initiative to make students cognizant about the prominence of trees and our environment. In an earnest attempt to give a green touch to the school environment and sensitize the students about their role about it, Van Mahotsav is always celebrated with zest and zeal in BCM School. This year also, in spite of prevailing conditions, Eco- Club of the school organized different activities for the students. Students of classes I to III presented plant show in waste containers reinforcing the idea of Reuse. In Class IV students depicted their love for trees by making beautiful and thoughtful posters on the topic “Trees- Our best friends”. Each poster had a unique story to tell and spread the message that this green planet we live in must be protected and cared for. Class V students came up as environment crusaders. They put learning in to action by creating Compost pits at home as guided by their teachers. Students from VI to VIII planted saplings at their homes penned down thought provoking slogans, raising awareness about the importance of trees. Students participated in all the activities with great vehemence. They took a pledge to awake, arise and realize the need to save our ailing planet by planting more and more tress. Principal Mr. D.P. Guleria acclaimed the activities and motivated the students to protect the environment and thus the Mother Earth.

OPEN POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

Everest Yoga Institute conducted Open Virtual Poster Making Competition on the eve of 6th International Day of Yoga. Around 800 entries were submitted from all across the country. Students showcased their creativity in unique forms through beautiful posters and colours and bagged different positions in various categories with respective themes allotted to them. Sreya of class VIII-H has used this lockdown period in the best possible way as she participated in  more than 20 online quizzes such as Covid 19 awareness quiz by Institute of Management Studies Noida, Sathyaram Academy, Bengaluru, Aryabhatta Group of Institutes, Ajmer, Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat Quiz etc. which were organized by different universities and organizations. She has received appreciation from all the organizations for excellent performance. She has also participated in Kalakruti Karo- Na 2020, a national level online drawing competition by Hulahul Foundation, Online talent hunt by Incredible Stars etc. Her article ‘How you made your lockdown period productive’ was published in The Hulahul Times, Mumbai.

Fitness Fun with Dad on Father’s Day

“Father is the guiding light whose love shows the way”

Each one of us has been given the gift of life thanks to our parents. And yoga is that divine instrument meant to support us in understanding and enjoying this life. This year International day of Yoga and Father’s Day has come on a same day, so children celebrated the two together and rejoice the glory that is life? Yoga helps to sow the seeds of a bonding within the family. Bcmites  started their day by doing various asanas, meditation and breathing exercises with their father. They did various asanas like Swaas Dhyan, pranayam, sukhasana etc. They also spent some quality time with their father by watching movies and playing games. To make this day more special and show gratitude, they also made beautiful cards.

International Day of Yoga

Yoga helps in controlling an individual's mind, body and soul. It helps in managing stress and anxiety. This year due to covid-19 pandemic, CBSE has given an entirely different platform to participate in various yoga competitions. Firstly, students filled an online form for Yoga which was by Ministry of Ayush. A good number of students participated in My Life My Yoga video blogging competition which was organized by Ministry of Ayush. They have also registered for the Online National Quiz competition on the theme ‘Yoga for Health and Harmony’. An Open Poster Making Competition was also organized by Everest Yoga Institute. In which around 200 students from classes VI to VIII participated. Pawni Gambhir of VIII A bagged first position & Namandeep bagged 3rd position in Group D category.

Ambassadors Of Hope

BCMites brought laurels to school
Divyanshi Sood of class I, Aryan Jain of class IV and Rishav Jhamat of class XI brought laurels to school by securing place in top 1000 students who got consolation prizes in Ambassadors of Hope competition among more than 100000 participants from all over the state.   Ambassadors of Hope competition was organized by Sh. Vijay Inder Singla, Education Minister of Punjab to motivate students to spread hope during Covid - 19 Pandemic. BCMites enthusiastically showcased their talent in dance, music, poetry recitation, painting, elocution etc. District wise result for the top three positions is awaited.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY II MIDDLE WING II

World Environment Day is celebrated as an annual event to raise the importance of the healthy and green environment in human lives and to solve the issues of the environment by implementing some positive environmental actions. BCMites of classes VI to VIII came forward and participated in several DIY activities to preserve the environment from waste material. Students of class VI and VII made bird feeders with waste plastic bottles & cardboard and students of class VIII made compost pits in buckets and made the best use of plastic waste. They clicked their photographs and shared with their class teachers. School Principal D.P. Guleria appreciated the efforts of the students.

Webinar on world environment day special/E-launch of WSD

This virtual dialogue was hosted on the eve of the World Environment Day. On this occasion, the hon’ble Indian minister for environment, forest and climate change, Mr. Prakash Javadekar was the chief guest. This occasion also marked the launch of a very special initiative underline the role of youth,” youth unite for a safe and secure environment for all”.  Mr. Ugo Astuto, Mr Hans Jacob, Ms. Jan Thompson, Prof. Nicholas Stern and Mr. Woochong Um were speakers of the event. They gave their valuable thoughts on environment. Students of VI and VII classes also attended the webinar and got ideas how we can sustain our environment in a better way. Speakers discussed about global health crises and their closes inter linkage with climate impact. They said we should focus on the roadmap that nations need to adopt routing towards a green recovery. Overall it was an informative webinar.

FOUNDERS' DAY

On the sacred day of Birth Anniversary of MAHATMA SATYANAND MUNJAL, (24th May 1917 – 14th April 2016), BCM School, Chandigarh Road got flooded with nostalgic memories of Mahatma Ji. The hearts of staff and students were engulfed in the sacred feelings of obeisance for Mahatma Satyanand Ji, whom they lovingly called 'Bau Ji'. Every year this event is celebrated on the school premises as Founder's Day with a sense of reverence and devotion. However, this year due to lockdown eloborated plans of celebration were abated to some extent. Yet, with unsurmountable spirits the teachers and students organized a plethora of activities as a tribute to the legendary Mahatma from may 18 to may 24, 2020. The children as guided by their mentors recited and inscribed holy vedic mantras and golden rules of Arya samaj. There were online events like Bhajan Singing, Greeting cards making and Portrait designing organized by the students and for the students. The staff members performed Hawan at their homes. The Principal , Sh. D P Guleria expressed his thoughts about Mahatma Ji that the great visionary was truly an epitome of ‘Satya’ (truth) and ‘Anand’ (bliss) who has been and will be a perennial source of inspiration for him and all BCMites.

International Biological Diversity Day II PRIMARY & MIDDLE WING II

International Day for Biological Diversity focuses on biodiversity as the foundation for our food and health. The day has been proclaimed to increase understanding and to spread awareness about biodiversity issues. Bridging the gap between books and biodiversity in a unique manner, students of classes I to VIII of BCM School Sector 32 celebrated this day with poise. They showcased their talent in different activities ranging from poster making to slogan writing, best out of waste to e-collage. They also displayed their tender love while watering the plants in their houses. They also went for nature walk to understand biodiversity in a better way. Later on they penned down the ways to protect the nature. They focused on to spread knowledge and awareness about the dependency of food system, nutrition, health on biodiversity and on healthy ecosystems. Principal Mr. D.P. Guleria appreciated the students and told them to be more sensitive towards the environmental concerns.

A mother is the backbone of the family. She is the one who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. The pandemic has put everything on a halt but mothers are the ones whose workload is increased. What better day it can be than the Mother’s Day to appreciate the sacrifices a mother does for her children! BCMites made this day a beautiful and memorable one for their mothers by making cards, preparing meals for her and by giving surprises. It was a fun filled day for the students as they acknowledge their mothers’ unconditional love and efforts.

CELEBRATION OF RED CROSS DAY II PRIMARY & MIDDLE WING II

Students of BCM School Chandigarh Road celebrated World Red Cross Day amidst lockdown. This year Red Cross Day has come at a time when the whole world is gripped in Covid-19 pandemic. There are so many people who are serving the humanity selflessly. Bcmites of different classes participated in a plethora of activities. Class 1 & 2 prepared first aid boxes, class 3rd made thank you cards for Red Cross volunteers and class 4 & 5 learnt how to make masks. In addition to this, class 6th wrote and recited poems in praise of the unsung heroes of this pandemic. Class 7th & 8th wrote gratitude letters for the doctors and nurses who are fighting with this pandemic at frontline. Principal D P Guleria appreciated the efforts of the students and said that we should also do our part to save the humanity.

BCMites paid gratitude to frontline warriors on International Labor Day
 
Commemorating the spirit of International Labor day and  acknowledging the sacrifices of  frontline warriors during COVID-19 Pandemic, students of BCM School, Chandigarh Road showed their gratitude towards millions of healthcare workers who are fighting at covid-19  front line to save lives, by preparing beautiful Thank you cards. They also thanked the Police Cops, Sanitation workers, Milkmen, Vegetable vendors, delivery boys of their locality who have been working for day and night to make sure we get our supplies of essential commodities.   Labor Day 2020 came at a time when the entire world is fighting coronavirus pandemic. There could be no better day than international labor Day to thank these people, who make our lives easier when the world is fighting this novel coronavirus. Students also conveyed their concern for the plight of Migrant labourers through  their  write ups. Principal DP Guleria applauded the efforts of the students and conveyed his message to them that only with great labour one can get success in life because without labour nothing prospers.

VIRTUAL INTERACTION

At BCM we are pledged to leave no stone unturned for the betterment of our students.” With this thought in mind BCM School organized a Virtual interaction on April 30, Thursday wherein teachers interacted via video calling with the parents and students of  their respective classes.

 Parents were asked to feel free to give their suggestions and discuss their queries regarding   assignments or notes which are being sent to them regularly.  Teachers motivated students to be patient at this difficult time and guided them how to complete their assigned work neatly and carefully. Teachers thanked parents for their continuous support and efforts done with the children and asked for the same cooperation in future also. This platform provided the parents with an opportunity to share their concerns. Parents also appreciated the continuous efforts put in by the management and teachers during this time to keep the students engaged. Such virtual interaction will definitely make students and teachers tech-savvy, with innovative teaching – learning experiences and moreover it will definitely create a better rapport between teacher and taught.

A book is a dream that we hold in our hand. Books are the gateway between the past and present or future. Amidst this lockdown, when books are really playing a great role as they are the stress busters. Students of middle wing enthusiastically celebrated this day while staying safe at their homes. They spared their time for reading their favourite books. Students of class VIII recited beautiful poems on Books- My Best Friend and send their videos to their teachers.

WORLD BOOK DAY

It is rightly, said that Books are our best friends.’ Books provide us a great knowledge which remains everlasting. World Book Day is celebrated every year on April 23, across the world.

To inculcate the habit of reading books in the students and to tell them importance of the books in our lives, videos related to short biography of great writer William Shakespeare along with one of his famous play “The Merchant of Venice”, were sent to the students on World Book Day , besides this ‘DEAR’ activity was also sent in which students were asked to enjoy reading books other than their school books.

Earth does not belong to us, we belong to it. Amidst Covid-19, nature has shown that it can save herself, it is the human race which needs to mend its ways to prolong its stay on this planet. In spite of the lockdown, BCMites marked this day in a special way. They conveyed a message that though it is a panicking situation for us but Earth is healing in this process. Students of class VI drew beautiful posters and VII made face masks and even painted their faces to convey the message that Earth is our only home. Best entries were shortlisted and shared in class groups to spread the messages conveyed by the students.

WORLD EARTH DAY

This quote stands true in present scenario. 50 years ago, on April 22nd, people all over the world started celebrating Earth day to make everyone aware about the importance of saving mother Earth. But recently nature has shown that it can save herself, it is the human race which needs to mend its ways to prolong its stay on this planet. Every year this day is celebrated with great zeal and zest in BCM School, Chandigarh Road. Inspite of the lockdown, BCMites marked this day in a special way. The day commenced with taking an  e- pledge to save mother Earth. Few activities were planned for them, which they can do easily at home. Students of classes I and II recited  beautiful poems on our benevolent mother Earth. Through creative collages and PPTs students of class IV and V conveyed a message that though it is a panicking situation for us but Earth is healing in this process. Students of class VI and VII drew beautiful posters and even painted their faces to convey the message that Earth is our only home. Best entries were shortlisted and shared in class groups to spread the messages conveyed by the students. Principal DP Guleria applauded the efforts of students, parents and teachers and stated that this situation should not mellow down our spirits. Together we can come out of this by staying calm.

WORLD HERITAGE DAY

 

“A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.”

            It is important to celebrate our heritage because it is the time for all of us to learn about our own culture and heritage. Students should know about their heritage because it breathes life and gives meaning to our identities and our knowledge of Who we are?

To promote this feeling in students,  some videos of ‘World Heritage Sites in India’ and ‘Importance of greeting our guests with folded hands’ were sent to students.

BAISAKHI AND DR. B.R.AMBEDKAR JAYANTI

To bring in festive fervor during this difficult phase, students were encouraged to celebrate Baisakhi with their families with enthusiasm by staying at home only. This year Baisakhi also marks the 100th anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Students were acquainted about this event through relevant videos . Few more links were sent to make the students aware about the significance of this day and great heritage of our country. Parents were asked to discuss the historical importance and facts related to the day  with their children. For the merry time Punjabi folk songs were sent. Students were also asked to enjoy the Bhangra beats and Punjabi sweet dishes.

To make students aware about Dr. B.R Ambedkar Jayanti , father of Indian Constitution, G.K questions regarding Indian Constitution, YouTube videos on short biography of  Dr. Ambedkar were sent in all the classes.
